Ichthys LNG & LPG Full Containment Tanks

Ichthys LNG & LPG Full Containment Tanks
Structural Engineering Geotechnical Civil Engineering

Detailed design of four large-scale LNG and LPG storage tanks for one of Australia's largest energy projects, featuring advanced seismic analysis and specialised foundation engineering.

Location:

Darwin, NT

Client:

Inpex (Owner) / JKC (EPC Contractor)

Project Overview

BG&E undertook the successful tender design and detailed design to KHI-LOR for the 2 LNG and 2 LPG tanks for the Ichthys project, one of Australia’s most significant energy developments.

Technical Scope

The project encompassed:

  • Preliminary Tender Design: Comprehensive design of outer concrete containment tanks
  • Seismic Assessment: Advanced dynamic analysis for site-specific earthquake conditions
  • Foundation Engineering: Preliminary foundation analysis including soil improvement methodology
  • Geotechnical Management: Coordination and management of specialist geotechnical sub-consultants

Design Complexity

The Darwin location required specialised design considerations for tropical cyclonic conditions and seismic activity, demanding sophisticated structural analysis and robust construction methodologies.

Outcome

Delivery of world-class LNG and LPG storage infrastructure supporting Australia’s energy export capacity, with design solutions meeting the highest international standards for safety and reliability.
