Jimblebar Mine Access Road & Rail for BHP Billiton Iron Ore

Jimblebar Mine Access Road & Rail for BHP Billiton Iron Ore
Civil Engineering Rail Engineering Flooding & Hydrology Structural Engineering

Engineering design for 20km sealed mine access road upgrade and 13km rail duplication with comprehensive hydrology analysis and drainage structures.

Location:

Pilbara, WA

Client:

BHP Billiton

BG&E undertook engineering investigations and detailed design for the upgrade of a sealed mine access road to BHP’s Ore Body 18 site at Jimblebar (near Newman in Western Australia). In addition to design of the access road, we undertook the design of the duplication of the existing BHP Jimblebar spur rail line, which runs parallel to the access road.

The route crossed a number of existing waterways, which required hydrology analysis and hydraulic and structural design. The civil design included design of box culvert, pipes and reinforced concrete drainage structures, designed for rail (iron ore wagons) and roadway loadings.
