Turee Creek Heavy Haul Railway Bridge

Turee Creek Heavy Haul Railway Bridge
Bridge Design Structural Engineering Rail Engineering Flooding & Hydrology

Innovative composite construction multi-span bridge setting new standards for heavy haul railways with fully assembled spans and on-site concrete decking.

Location:

Pilbara, WA

Client:

Minenco / Fluor Daniel

A unique design was developed for this multi-span heavy haul railway bridge, involving composite construction. The steel fabrication was carried out in Perth and the bridge spans fully assembled with permanent formwork and then transported to site where the concrete deck was added.

Traditionally, these bridges had been built as all-steel construction and the composite design set new standards for this type of structure for the future. An extensive waterway analysis was carried out for this site resulting in the design of armour protection at abutment areas and consideration of significant scour depths at the pier locations.
